Glacier I Wind Farm – Wind generation in northern Montana
The Glacier Wind I wind farm is a 105-megawatt wind farm located in Shelby, Montana. The project was commissioned in late 2008 and provides power to the Montana grid.
Glacier II Wind Farm – Wind generation in northern Montana
The Glacier Wind II wind farm is a 103.5-megawatt wind farm located in Shelby, Montana. The project was commissioned in late 2009 and provides power to the Montana grid.
Rim Rock – Wind generation in northern Montana
The Rim Rock wind farm is a 189-megawatt wind farm located in Kevin, Montana. The project was commissioned in late 2013 and provides power to the Montana and the Alberta grid.
Under Construction – Glacier Solar Park
BHE Montana is developing a 120-megawatt Solar photovoltaic (PV) facility in Glacier and Toole Counties in north central Montana. The project expects to be commissioned in late 2026. BHE Montana’s Glacier Solar Park will be built on over 1,500 acres of land. The installation of over 200,000 solar panels will add 120 megawatts of affordable, renewable energy to Montana’s electricity system and is expected to be in operation by the end of 2026.
Under Construction – Glacier Battery System
BHE Montana is constructing a 75 megawatt x 2-hour Battery Energy Storage facility near Ethridge, Montana. The project is expected to be fully commissioned by December 2025. The battery is a stand-alone facility that will be used to support real-time scheduling of intermittent generation from BHE Montana’s wind and solar generation assets, adding an additional layer of resiliency to Montana’s energy grid. Glacier Battery System will be interconnected to the Montana-Alberta Tie Line.
The Glacier Battery System is highly complementary to Montana’s existing generation portfolio, creating operational efficiencies and strengthening the grid.
