BHE Montana operates a 75-megawatt two-hour Battery Energy Storage System near Ethridge, Montana. Commissioned in 2026, the Glacier Battery System is the largest energy storage facility in Montana. The stand-alone facility is used to support the integration of regional wind and solar generation assets in the state of Montana, adding an additional layer of resiliency to Montana’s fast-growing electricity grid. The Glacier Battery System is directly interconnected to the Montana-Alberta Tie Line, adding expanding reliability benefits to the region.

The Glacier Battery System is highly complementary to BHE Montana’s existing generation portfolio, creating operational efficiencies that benefit customers while strengthening Montana’s grid.
